All the classes I teach are self-directed. You will do your own workout on whatever Pilates apparatus you have. If you’re in a full studio you’ll decide where you’ll do your workout using one or more apparatus for the 60-minute class. You’ll lead yourself through your workout and I’ll offer suggestions, observations and /or corrections as you move through your exercises. For all classes, the focus is on moving.
Yes you can! You only need a mat that offers sufficient support to roll on your back. A yoga mat, or 2 if they are thin, even a large towel on a carpeted surface will be an ideal spot for all the Pilates Mat exercises. I will suggest a few common household items – a few towels or a small cushion – if necessary. If you have hand weights or a magic circle those are helpful as well, but not necessary.
Oh yes, please do! Whatever manufacturer of Reformer, Chair or other Pilates apparatus will work well.
Yes you can! If you are new to the order of exercises on the Reformer and Mat I am happy to help you. If you are in the process of learning the exercise order please feel free to have a list beside you as you work for easy reference. I can suggest ways to do the exercises that will aid you in learning your routine.
I love that you are choosing my classes to begin your Pilates study. We’ll have a chat via email or phone if you have any concerns or body issues you’d like me to know about first. Then, we’ll start with a few fundamentals on the Mat if you’re online, and if you are in-studio we’ll use all of the Pilates apparatus. You’ll repeat your exercises over time – over multiple classes – until you know them and can do them without prompting. By the time you have learned your very first exercises, you should already be seeing benefits and you’ll be ready for more challenging exercises.
Yes I do. I offer Group Workouts in person (up to 3 people in studio) Tuesdays-Fridays. Check out the schedule here.
Great question. Group classes that are self-guided are a feature of my studio. You’ll be working at your own pace, on exercises that are selected for your individual needs. You will be in the company of other students but you won’t all be doing the same exercises together. With my supervision and help you’ll work toward moving independently. At first, I’ll give you specific instructions. Eventually, you’ll need less help from me and you’ll still get an amazing workout. Plus you’ll be learning a method of exercise that will last a lifetime. The self-guided classes allow you to make the most of your investment in yourself.
When you come to your first class you’ll get an exercise card with all your exercises: Some for that day and some to work up to over time. You’ll have it as a “cheat sheet” so you’ll know what to do. And I’ll be there to help. You’ll work deliberately at first and as you gain experience and build proficiency, your pace will increase and challenge you further. This process may take time but is ultimately very empowering and rewarding.
Oh yes, Joe Pilates’ Universal Reformer is the meat and potatoes of the method. You’ll learn your routine on the Reformer and visit it each time you’re in the studio. In addition to your Reformer exercises, you’ll enhance your skills and ready your body for new exercises using the entire Pilates system. In-studio, you’ll have access to all the Pilates apparatus: the Cadillac, the Wunda Chair, the Pilates Barrels, as well as all the smaller apparatus like the Foot Corrector and the Neck Stretcher. Using the full Pilates system will progress your workout further and you’ll see results faster than a workout done exclusively on the Reformer.
